GPS: Friend or Foe?
About 5 years ago my husband decided we needed a GPS. This was amazing for two reasons: 1. My husband knows everything and didn’t need a GPS. 2. The fact my husband was going to spend the money. Now understand my husband does not make snap decisions. So I was expecting him to talk himself out of this even if it was on sale. But he ended up buying a GPS and he named her Michelle. He said it was nice to have someone, Michelle, in the car that didn’t complain about his driving. He’s just lucky she doesn’t have eyes.
I will admit the GPS has really come in handy. We have used it countless times for football games, cheer competitions and most especially our recent trip to Disney World. All in all I believe this was money well spent.
Mama and the GPS
This past week I took mama for a doctors appointment and since I didn’t know the exact location I decided we should use the GPS. I waited until we got up the road a little way before I turned it on because I knew Michelle & I didn’t agree on the way I should go to town. So I turn it on and my mama thought she had a new toy.
Mama: What’s that?
Me: The GPS, Jerry calls her Michelle.
Mama: Michelle? Chris’s wife.
Me: No Mama
GPS: In half a mile turn right.
Mama: Are you gonna do that?
Me: Do what? (I’m obviously not paying the GPS any attention yet)
Mama: Turn right, like Michelle said.
Me: No mama, I’m going up Mack road.
Mama: Oh okay, why did she say turn right?
Me: I don’t know mama.
By now we are at the end of the road and the GPS is still telling me to turn right.
Mama: Be quite, we are not going that way we’re going to the left.
Me: You’re as bad as Jerry.
Mama: I see why he argues with her, she don’t know where we’re going.
When we made a stop at Bojangles to get a biscuit the GPS kept telling us to turn left.
Mama: Why is she telling us to turn left?
Me: I guess she wants us to go up to the stop light and turn left and head back to the by-pass.
Mama: We’re not going that way Michelle.
As we get closer to the doctor’s office…
Mama: This isn’t the way your dad and I came.
Me: I’m sorry mama, this is the way the GPS told us to come.
Mama: We we printed the directions off google and it took us all the way around. I knew there had to be a quicker way.
This is how our entire trip to the doctor and back went.
The next day I go to my mama’s because I realized I left the GPS in her car.
Mama: You need to get that GPS out of my car.
Me: Is something wrong?
Mama: She keeps telling me where to go. Every time I crank the car she comes on.
Me: (snickering) Did you hit a button or something?
Mama: I don’t know what I hit but she keeps coming on and she keeps telling me to turn here.
Me: Okay I’ll make sure I get it when I leave.
And as I was leaving she even came out to make sure I got the GPS out of her car.
I love my mama!!!
